Poor Clyde. I sadly feel that he was not set up for success. He is keen to work with you, but I feel his intentions are being ignored due to impatience.
I also think it is possible that he has vision loss in his one eye. He takes the millet from her from that side when he turns his head all the way around to look with his other eye. That shows that he perfectly understands the trick – he maneuvers his whole head in order to do it – but he is unable to accomplish it from the other angle, due either to a loss of vision in one eye, or because he feels closed in due to being nearer to the wall.

Interesting that Clyde wasn’t keen on one side! One of my budgies is particular about which hand he’ll step up to- left hand,no problem. Right hand, he seriously hesitates.my other budgie happily steps up on both! Interesting character quirk 🙂

Why would you think he’d be responsive to food right after he was freaked out enough to take to flight? After a hard landing, he was stunned. That’s why you were able to pick him up from the floor without any trouble. You can tell because his chest feathers are completely flat. You did it again later, too. The poor bird was freaked, took to flight, and flew straight into a wall, and the first thing you think to do after picking him up is to try to entice him with millet and train him. Frankly, I don’t get what you’re doing with this bird. It seems like in every video, you do something you wouldn’t do with any other bird you’ve trained. At least your dislike of cockatiels wasn’t palpable in this video.
